Press Release: Europe will be Young, Fresh and Green
Almost 100 young greens from all over Europe participated in the General Assembly of the Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) which was held in Vienna from the 20th to the 22nd of April. In the General Assembly, Young Greens elected a new Executive Committee for FYEG and decided to become the youth wing of the European Green Party (EGP).
Marina Barbalata (Romania) and Bartek Lech (Poland) were elected as the new Spokespersons. Former Fundraiser Carolina Garcia Lopez (Spain) was elected as the Member Organisation Coordinator, whereas the previous Project Coordinator Ognyan Kovachev (Bulgaria) was elected Treasurer. The rest of the Executive Committee consists of Charlotte Gasser (United Kingdom) as the Fundraiser, Marc Gimenez (Catalonia) as the Campaign Coordinator, Emma Kari (Finland) as the Communications Officer, Dorien Keizer (Netherlands) as the EU Affairs Coordinator and Rafi Korn (Italy) as the Project Coordinator.
The General Assembly decided to recognise the EGP as the parent party of FYEG. Nevertheless, FYEG will remain independent, meaning that it will follow its own political agenda. Furthermore, FYEG welcomes the youth section of GROZA (Green Alternative) from Russia, as its new Member Organization.
With respect to the political line of FYEG, the General Assembly expressed full commitment to the alternative G8 mobilisation. The other main issues that were discussed by the young greens were gender equality, social economics and the future of Europe. Together, they reaffirmed their commitment for transforming Europe into a Fresh and Green space.
The new Executive Committee would like to thank the Austrian Young Greens for their help in organising the General Assembly, the former Executive Committee members for their great work and all the participants for their commitment to FYEG.
